Bubble Painting

We absolutely LOVED this activity! To do this activity at home all you need is soap, water based paint and water! Add equal parts soap, water and paint. Then, use a straw to blow bubbles. Place a sheet of paper on top of the bubbles gently. Voila! You have beautiful artwork!

This activity wasn't just fun- it was informative as well. The children engaged in great discussion about primary and secondary colours. One student said, "Hey! When I blew the red paint into the yellow paint it turned orange! I wonder what happens if I blow it into the green paint!".

Another student questioned, "Are the bubbles coloured or the paint under it?". What fabulous inquiry! We investigated and discovered that the paint coated the bubble but slowly disappeared. We had to make our impressions as soon as we blew the bubbles in order to make the print on the paper. We loved hearing the rich discussion around this activity and can't wait to try it again-- this time with a few extra variables! Stay tuned!
