Our Amazing Art

As a part of an ongoing project, our class has been working hard at making beautiful works of art to add to our art show! This year we are focusing on seasonal art and so we thought this incredible collaborative piece would suit our theme perfectly.

We originally saw the idea in another early years classroom and LOVED it! We loved the way this art integrated science, art, nature, and just plain fun. We began by discussing what colours we saw frequently outside. Then, we gathered leaves of various colours and sizes and compared them to our crayon collection. We then glued the crayons in a spectrum of colour onto a canvas. Then the fun began! The children took turns using a hair dryer to melt the crayons. We were surprised at how quickly the crayons melted! Within a few seconds the melted wax made its way down our canvas which allowed for a brief discussion on velocity, temperature and forms of matter (solid and liquid).

Check out the stunning results!
